서울 삼청동의 빔 갤러리 Gallery Biim은 80년대의 대표적 다목적 주택형태인 3층 벽돌 건물 1층에 있다. 이 건물 외부에 두 가지 설치 작업을 한다. 

 1. 1층 상점이나 식당을 위한 간판을 거는 자리에 벽돌 타일 패널을 설치한다. 이 낡은 건물의 대표 이미지인 벽돌 감각을 현재화시킨다. 벽돌 패널의 뒷면에는 형광등을 설치하여 야간에 켰을

때 이런 의도를 부각하고 2에 설치하는 가벽도 밝힌다. 

 2. 건물 1층 외벽에는 이전에 식당, 상점 등으로 사용하며 필요에 의해 만든 결과물로서 벽돌 장식물과 10개의 다른 디자인과 개념의 열리지 않는 창문들이 있다. 세련되고 개념적인  건축가의 작업이 아니라, 지역 주민들의 미적, 상업적 감각의 결과물인데, 이 건물이 겪은 역사적 증거이기도 하다. 이 작업은 이를 존중하고 적극적으로 반영시킨다. 

실내외 구조용 건축재료인 폴리 카르보나이트 판재로 1층 외벽 전체를 가리는 가벽을 설치한다. 이 판재는 바로 뒤의 사물 존재 여부와 색깔 등을 비추는 정도로 투명하며, 조화롭고 현대적인 이미지를 제공한다.  건물이 주위 환경 안에서 어떻게 기능하며 변화해왔는지, 또 살아가는지에 대한 작업이다. 가벽은 하나의 출입문만 제외하고는 창문 앞에도 동일하게 설치하는데, 판재에 투명 컬러 시트지를 해당하는 창문과 같은 위치와 크기로 붙인다. 이 사각 색 면들은 건물의 실용적, 미적 감각을 최대한 표현하며, 내부 공간을 비운 갤러리 안에서는 창을 통해 들어오는 반투명한 10개의 사각 색 면을 보게 된다.

Project BIIM Gallery,  2002 

 The BIIM Gallery is located just at the foot of the n-village ravine in Bukchon, Seoul. It is situated on the ground floor of a three floored building of typical 80s Korean look. I’d like to install two different kinds of covers on its facade. 

 #1: Instead of the usual shop billboard for the shops situated on the ground floor. I want to install a brick panel, which is back-lit by a battery of fluorescent neon-tubes. While this is the allover characteristic of this building, I'd like to accentuate specifically this through a kind of modernization and self-conscience. 

#2: The facade contains 10 different windows and multiple bricks infested decorations, due to 20 years of quickly changing restaurant and shop owners. This mixture of design and concepts is not the work of a crazy architect but due to the commercial taste and esthetics of the vast number of shop owners and landlords. The result is a building with a face. I want to cover the entire facade with Poly carbonate panels including the windows. Through the windows receive a supplementary layer of transparent colored plastic film of same size and spacing as the windows. These colored fields represent the different aesthetic pragmatisms of this building. The interior of the gallery will be empty allowing full view of the colored light inside the exhibition halls.
