괴물소환

: 시대가 빚고, 인간이 불러낸다.

괴물은 언제나 불안과 욕망, 금기와 상처를 반영하며 시대가 요구하고, 인간이 빚어낸 형상이었다.
과거의 괴물은 자연을 향한 경외, 초월적 존재에 대한 두려움,
알 수 없는 재난을 상징하며 신화와 민담 속에 모습을 드러냈다.

그러나 오늘날의 괴물은 다르다.
사회적 불안과 집단적 기억이 응축된 존재로서,
기술과 시스템, 감정과 정보, 불안과 갈등,
억눌린 기억과 욕망이 뒤엉켜 괴물은 점점 생명력을 가진다.
현대의 괴물은 우리 안에서 조용히 자라난 응시이며,
공동체가 빚어낸 무의식의 얼굴이다.

《괴물소환》은 우리의 역사 속에서 집단적 감정, 욕망, 불안이 어떻게 괴물이라는 형상으로 나타났는지를 탐구하고,
현대 사회가 만들어낸 불안의 얼굴로서 괴물을 새롭게 바라본다.
괴물은 단지 상상에 머물지 않는다.
그것은 현실을 비추는 거울이며, 우리 스스로가 창조한 해석이자 은유다.

지금, 소환의 순간이 다가왔다.
당신은 어떤 괴물을 불러내고 있는가?
그것은 당신을 위협하는 그림자인가,
아니면 우리가 함께 빚어낸 시대의 자화상인가?

Summoning Monsters is a special exhibition that brings together 33 historical artifacts and 40 works of modern and contemporary art to explore how monsters reflect the fears, desires, and collective anxieties of each era.

Summoning Monsters
: Shaped by Time, Summoned by Us.

Monsters have always mirrored our fears and desires, our taboos and traumas.
They are forms shaped by the anxieties of their age and by the hands of humankind.
In the past, monsters emerged from myth and folklore—symbols of reverence toward nature,
of awe and dread before the transcendent, and of catastrophes beyond understanding.

But today’s monsters are different.
They are composites of social unrest and collective memory—
fused with technology and systems, emotions and information, fear and conflict,
repressed longing and unresolved grief.
These monsters do not come from outside us; they gather force from within.
They are quiet reflections that take root in our subconscious,
the unspoken faces of a community’s inner world.

Summoning Monsters
This exhibition explores how collective emotions, desires, and fears have historically taken monstrous form—
and reimagines the monster as the face of contemporary anxiety.
The monster is no longer confined to fantasy.
It is a mirror of reality, a metaphor of our own making, an interpretation we cannot unsee.

Now, the moment of summoning is upon us.
What kind of monster are you calling forth?
Is it the shadow that haunts you—
or the portrait of an age we have shaped together?
