성곡미술관은 동시대 아트씬에서 왕성한 활동을 펼쳐온 듀오작가, 김나영 & 그레고리 마스의<리프로스펙티브Reprospective> 전을 개최합니다. 한국인인 김나영과 독일인 그레고리 마스는 파리에서만나, 전 세계를 작업장 삼아 일상 속의 예술을 실현합니다. 이들의 삶과 예술에 차이가 없어 보이듯, 두 작가의 예술적 개성은 매우 이질적이면서도 닮아 있습니다.

‘재생하다 Reproduce’와 ‘회고하는 Retrospective’이라는 의미의 이번 전시는, 듀오가 지난 15년동안 국내외에서 전시했던 작품들을 재조합, 재배치하여 다시 전시함으로써 ‘리프로스펙티브Reprospective’라는 엉뚱한 제목을 가집니다. 일견 어수선해 보이는 김나영 & 그레고리 마스의 작업 곳곳에는 이번 전시 제목처럼 유머와 해학이 숨어있으며, 살짝 비튼 일상과 대중문화 코드들이 넘쳐 흘러 작은 미소를 짓게 합니다. 전혀 다른 맥락의 이미지와 오브제, 대중적 코드들을 서로 결합시키며 자칭‘핸드메이드 레디메이드 Handmade ready-made’를 창조하는 김나영 & 그레고리 마스의 회고전에 많은 관심을 부탁드립니다.

Sungkok Art Museum is pleased to present the exhibition “Reprospective,” featuring the works of Nayoungim and Maass, as part of the museum’s program to support veteran Korean artists. Having first met in Paris, the Korean artist Nayoungim and the German artist Maass have since taken an artistic journey together to realize the art of everyday life, using the world as their workshop. As there seems to be no clear line between their lives and their art, their artistic personalities are quite different yet resemble each other at the same time. The exhibition is designed to look back on their 15-year career as an artistic duo, with previously displayed artworks “reproduced” for this retrospective. This is how we arrived at the somewhat quirky title, “Reprospective”
For the audience, their work may represent not so much “works of art” as the jumbled mess of life. However, elements of humor and levity are hidden in the duo’s messy-looking works as suggested by the title. And at the same time, the slightly twisted aspects of everyday life and pop culture elements contained in them may bring a little smile to the audience. Standing at the boundary between reality and unreality, their artworks may seem somewhat garish yet not frivolous, heavy but not crushing. Now it is our pleasure to invite you to enjoy such a unique artistic experience in this retrospective of Nayoungim &amp Maass.
