The title of this exhibition, gleaned from a novella by writer and visual artist Peter Weiss, is usually translated to read „The Shadow of the Body of the Coachman“. Here, it offers a vast associative area for an exhibition dedicated in its entirety to a fascination for all kinds of shadow-related phenomena. The double genitive of the title suggests that this is supposed to be about more intellectually attractive artistic figures than simplistic oppositions – different from those that, for instance, merely juxtapose light and shadow. At least in the aesthetic field, mostly a third element will join seemingly clear-cut binary formations in time – and it is shadow which will be used in the artistic contributions to this exhibition as such an equally dividing and uniting „Third.“ In a sequence of three evolutionary stages, each of which will last one month, this Kunstsaele show will present a changing arrangement of works and comments, productions and reproductions, causes and effects, and everything in between.
