Seoul, S-Korea
This site is located in the middle of the city of Seoul, on top of a ravine. The gorgeous view from top of the hill in In-Wang shows the royal palace, the rock representing a natural defense and symbol of the Yi-Dynasty(1393-1910). This neighborhood was the first to be modernized in the 20th century, due to political reasons it has later been blocked from urban development. Since 1998 it is possible to make changes in the infrastructure, while the government wants to keep the part of town as a historic site. Roughly 50 % of the buildings are held in a traditional style. There exist some proposals to modernize the neighborhood, concerning necessary renovations of the streets, sewers etc.
Project 1:
The barrier
The barrier is a symbol of the village and it is also the demarcation line in between this neighborhood and the rest of the city. The shape of the barrier is simple, constructed out of welded steel tubes, the whole being slightly dangerous fro the passer-by and drivers, the installation being in a bad state. The goal is to bring a better standard of living to the village without destroying the phenomenon of the village or changing beyond recognition the all day life of the inhabitants.
My project is as follows: Exchanging the barrier with a glass construction, illuminated at night, with a semi-transparent one-way mirror layer. A certain mirror during the day and necessary luminous path during the night, against the light-pollution of Seoul by night, where much to many street lamps are installed.
Project 2:
Chimney of Korea-Diet-Center
This chimney is 22 meters high. It stands there for 14 years now.
A typical synonym and landmark for the Korean public baths of the 70s and 80s. Through modernization and the economic miracle, which introduced electric heating and replaced the standard oil or coal heating, this type structure is almost extinct.
The project is to install a lighthouse on top of this chimney.
Project 3:
Social Project Room
This is about a space in the topmost floor of a cultural activities center for the elderly. This building is connected to barrier s. a. It represents an access point and pedestrian pass way to the village. It is of peculiar characteristic neither seoulite nor villageois. There is already a little balcony and chamber, which I would like to restore while keeping the inner dimensions of the building as they are. Into this new space I want to build a residence for one person or for a group of people working on cultural activities concerning alternative activities concerning the n-village’s culture.

La vue sublime de la ballustrade In-wang donne sur le palais royale, représantant une défense naturelle et Symbole de la YI Dynastie(1393-1910). C´est un endroit, le premier quartier modernisé du 20ieme siècle, à raison politique, le devellopement urbain de ce lieu était blocqué. Depuis l´ans 1998 on peut changer l´infrastructure. Mais le gouvernment veut garder l´endroit comme site historique. 50 % des bâtiments y sont traditionels. Il y a quelque propositions de moderniser le quartier lors de réparations nécessaire de rue, canalisation etc.
Projet 1: La barrière
La barrière de 150metre est symbole du village et c´est aussi la frontière entre le quartier et le reste de la ville. La forme est linéaire et simple, construit en toujauterie d´acier soudé à main, légèrement dangereux pour les piétons et automobilistes.
L´endroit est visiblement en mauvaise état. On voudrait y amener une meilleure niveaux de vie, mais sans détruire le phénomène de la ville de village ou de trop changer la vie des inhabitants.
Mon projets est le suivant: Remplacer la ballustrade avec une barrière en verre, lumineux dans la nuit, avec une couche sémi-transparent avec un certain effet mirroir pendant la journée et trace de lumière bien nécessaire pendant la nuit, donc un trauvail contre la pollution lumineuse de la ville de Séoul, qui installe trop de réverbère dans les rues.
Projet 2: La cheminée du Korea-Diet-Center
La cheminée de l´hauteur de 22 mètres. Il existe depuis 14 ans.
Une cheminée typique des années 70-80 des bains publiques koréens, mais par la modernisation et le miracle éconimique, donc installations de chauffages éléctrique qui remplacent les chauffages de charbons et l´huile, ce type est complètement extincte. Mon projet c´est d´installer une fare sur le bout du cheminée.
Projet 3: Project Room
Il s´agit de la dernière étage d´un centre d´activité culturelle pour les vieux. Ce bâtiment fait parti de la barrière (voir en haut).
Il représente un accés piétons au village, et possède un caractère particulier, ni séoulite ni villageois. Il y a déjà un petit balcon avec une chambre que je voudrais bien amenager en gardant le volume du bâtiment en question. comme endroit de résidence pour une personne ou pour un équipe ou bien pour des activités alternatives et culturelles qui concerne le n-village.
