파인애플 미끄럼틀, 2014-2015

이 작품 ‘파인애플 미끄럼틀’은 놀이기구와 환경조각의 중간에 있다. 지루한 무용지물, 먼지 뭍기쉬운  공공미술, 안락한 미술관 내부, 야외 건축물 등을 암시한다. 2개의 파인애플은 미술에서 하나 더하기 하나가 둘이 아닌 전혀 다른 의미로 변환됨을 실천한다.

파인애플은 오렌지, 바나나, 딸기 등처럼 함축적인 뜻으로 쓰이는 과일은 아니지만 독특한 구조를 지니고 있다. 스텐레스 재질의 파인애플 형태로 깎아낸 것처럼 형상화한 이 작품은 볼륨과 금속특유의 재질감으로 존재감을 극대화하면서, ‘공공’의 미술작품이 된다. 흔히 도시에 대한 부정적인 이미지, 예컨대 개인적 고립, 피폐한 정서, 유대와 공감의 결여가 이미 견고하게 굳어진 도시 풍경에 선물처럼 개입하며, 공생의 미술을 통해 유토피아적인 방향을 제안한다.

각 2층 구조물인 모델하우스 같은 파인애플 형상의 2개의 구조물은 공중다리로 연결되어있고, 어린이는 파인애플 아래층의 입구로 들어가서 사다리로 연결된 2층으로 올라가, 미끄럼틀로 내려오는 구조이다. 파인애플 건축물은 타공판으로 제작, 통풍이 잘되고 채광이 잘되며, 작품 내부에는 조명을 설치해 야간에 켠다.

The pineapple is as a more neutral kind of fruit, not too highly

connoted as the orange, banana, carrot, tomatoe, strawberry a.s.o., but of quite peculiar texture. This is a playground and sculpture relating to food-art, hinting at boring useless, dust-collecting public art all in one, as comfortable inside a Museum as outside a housing project. 

This sculpture, is likewise a open "model-apartment-like" walkable prop in the rough shape of a pineapple, as well as a immersive ambient environment, teepee, jurt, womb or tent.

Through a cave-like but airy and illuminated interior (because of the perforated stainless steel panes) childeren may slide into the open world or pass over a jetty to the next pineapple and descend, meaning exiting it. The double in art practice is interesting because if you do something twice significance completely changes. 

Modernity is the age of reproduction, taking very much to heart by pop art and by us in this case.
